What a year we have had! In 2018, we continued to grow our services and help serve more of the local community. From bringing in more clients at our Chelmsford Center to officially opening Especially Sweet Needs to help provide jobs skills training for young adults, it has been a busy year! Let’s take a look back.
The REC 2018 Year In Review Click To TweetChelmsford REC
At the end of December 2017, we began taking clients for the holiday vacation week and only grew from there. Since then we have been increasing our clientele every month. We have been working with clients ages 2 through young adult.
Travel & Learning
In March, our BCBA’s from The REC and our sister company Creative Behavioral Solutions attended the CalABA Conference in San Francisco. Our staff got the chance to brainstorm with other BCBA’s around the country while also gaining more knowledge and techniques in the world of ABA to bring home with them.
Touch a Truck
We held our annual Touch-a-Truck event in April to celebrate Autism Awareness month. It was a cold day but we still managed to get families out to see the trucks!
Especially Sweet Needs
In May, we officially opened Especially Sweet Needs (ESN), our bakery shop in Chelmsford Center. ESN specializes in baking gourmet cupcakes, muffins and cookies to the local community while also providing job skills training to young adults with special needs. Since May we have been able to work with local groups and schools in the community to help train young adults how to work in a bakery setting. Students have learned skills such as:
- Measuring dry ingredients
- Rolling and weighing cookie dough
- Folding boxes
- Labeling boxes
- Chopping skills
- Pouring batter
We are so grateful for the love and support we have gotten from the local community since we opened our doors. Haven’t tried our treats yet? Stop in or visit our website to learn more.
Summer at The REC
We had another busy summer at all of our centers this year! We had over 100 kiddos attend our summer program this year. Every week had a different theme from superhero week to back to school.
Summer Staff Outing
We always love celebrating our successful summers with our staff. This year we tried our luck at the Skeleton Key Escape Room. It was a great night of food, fun and team building. Some of us even “escaped!”
REC Halloween Party
The Peabody REC hosted their annual Halloween Party to allow kids a chance to practice their trick-or-treating skills in a safe place! This year our staff chose to be Emojis. Who doesn’t use Emojis these days!
All in all it was a fun and successful year for us! Want to see how much fun it was? Check out our 2018 Year in Review Movie!
