Why is Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention Important?

Intensive Early Learner Program

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that all children ages 18 – 24 months have an autism screening. If an individual is diagnosed with autism, early intensive behavioral intervention (EIBI) has been shown to provide a child the best opportunity for developing to their full potential.  Studies have shown that intensive intervention utilizing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) at a young age promotes social functioning, communication development, and functional behavior development as well as other areas of growth.

Here at The REC we utilize the principles of ABA in all our curriculum and our programs are created by Board Certified Behavioral Analysts (BCBA). With our centers growing in numbers, we are pleased to offer an Intensive Early Learner Program (IELP) at our Londonderry REC for children up to six-years-old.

The IELP entails:

  • 34.5 direct hours of ABA services,
  • 30 hours at the center and
  • 4.5 hours of home-based intervention (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 3:30-5).

The program begins with a comprehensive intake evaluation commencing with a parent interview. Utilizing curriculum based and norm referenced assessments (example: VB-MAPP, ABAS) as well as student observation in multiple environments, an individualized and comprehensive program is developed. Curriculum is created utilizing ABA methodologies specific for each learner and is supervised by a BCBA. Parental and family involvement is an essential aspect of the IELP and will lead to the most effective results. Direct services will be provided in the home 3 times a week and ongoing parent training will teach family members to successfully generalize skills. Programming will be continually monitored for progress and any changes will be made accordingly. The goal of the IELP is to provide young children with autism a solid foundation from which to grow and achieve to their full potential.

More details about the program can be found on our website
