We are already into the second week of Summer at The REC and this week we are all about what a SUPER-HERO is! In the art room, we are working on matching and sorting.
Sensory Friendly Super Hero Bin
We used the following to create it:
- The clouds are foam peanuts (from Staples).
- The free superhero cutouts are from The Letters of Literacy. They were laminated to last longer in our sensory bin.
- The buildings are made out of cardboard boxes and the building print out can also be found at The Letters of Literacy website.
Skills we worked on:
Students are sorting through all of the superheroes flying high in the “sky” in our sensory bin. They are sorting the lower case letters on the shorter skyscraper and the uppercase letters on the tall skyscraper.

We decided to design a real-life superhero center this week and build a fire station! Because first responders are superheroes in our book.
We used the following to create it:
- The print outs are from Teachers Pay Teachers (Pocket of Preschool)
- Our burning house is made out of cardboard boxes and was built by Mike Cassidy
- Our pretend flames are red, orange and yellow tissue paper
- The firemen hats, vests and fire extinguishers can be found on Amazon
- Any spray bottle can also be used as a pretend fire extinguisher
- Plastic tubing from Home Depot will be used as pretend fire hoses
Skills we worked on:
This week we are really focusing on cooperative play in this center.
- Sharing responsibilities
- Asking for help
- Giving instructions to others
- Taking turns in different roles
- Working together to achieve an outcome-putting out the fires
A big thank you to Mike Cassidy who helped put this center together! Want to see how the Fire Sation came together? Check out our video on our YouTube Channel HERE.
