Here at The REC, we are always looking to expand our services and teach new programming for all ages. The Chelmsford REC has recently launched The CREATE Program – Community and Recreational Experiences for Adults and Teens.
The CREATE Program is the life skills division of the Recreational Education Center. This division of The REC is a comprehensive clinic-based program based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis for individuals ages 16 through young adult. The CREATE Program at The REC provides a safe and supportive environment with an emphasis on job skills, functional life skills development, building independence, and other creative learning experiences in a facility which provides structure while supporting individuals and families with learning opportunities and community inclusion experiences when appropriate.
The REC is proud to announce that we will be opening Especially Sweet Needs, a small bakery in Chelmsford, MA. Rooted in the ABA methodology, this is one job placement option for young adults with disabilities available through the CREATE program.
Through our cupcake shop, our clients will practice the many skills needed to become a baker’s assistant. Clients will participate in a wide variety of tasks which will provide exposure to the food service industry. Especially Sweet Needs will focus on developing marketable job skills, social and communication skills and provide community inclusion opportunities.
